What started as a simple "I wish I had a clock in the dash" turned into "It would be nice to have the outside temperature I suppose" then snowballed from there. What I came up with in the end is a mini touchscreen computer that serves as a general information screen for your Jeep YJ. 

Functions:

• Front and rear foglight indicators

• Overhead searchlight power indicator

• Rear defrost indicator (hardtops only)

• 4X4 indicator

• Automatic screen dimming with headlights

• Altimeter

• Cabin and outside temperatures

• Auxillary 12V relay controller

• Sound effects PA with onboard amplifier

• A clock!

 

Unfortunately this project got away from me and really isn't a place where I feel comfortable selling it. It requires quite a bit of technical know-how, understanding Arduino and Nextion display code, and a willingness to irreversibly modify your Jeep dash and wiring. Due to the chip shortages and supply chain issues affecting everyone, it would also cost over $400 for the kit right now, which far exceeds my original price target. Instead, I condensed the most requested feature - the sound effects - into the soundboard project, which is available for purchase. I do plan to make a more polished version of this in the future, and perhaps that one will be sellable.
